July 4, 2011: Garrison Ye Olde Malt Shoppe

I must say one of the great things about being pregnant is my willingness to have a sweet treat when "Mini Cooper" asks.  (And i am convinced that it is my baby asking.)  After a long day in the sun and water "Mini" was requiring a cool treat, so we headed out in search of something that would be open on the 4th of July.  I was leaning toward getting a carton of Maple Nut ice cream (one of my favs that cannot be found in California), but the grocery store was already closed.  So we stumbled upon "Ye olde malt shoppe" in the lovely town of Garrison (population 1,453).  Here is what we found:

Jason had a large strawberry malt (fresh berries)
I had a small chocolate malt

Vacation in North Dakota: July 3, 2011

On day 3 of my vacation Jason and I travelled to Lake Audubon where my dad has a cabin over looking the lake.  Man is it peaceful (minus the mosquitos).  We had a great day on the lake and I got some much needed sun.  In the summer it doesn't get dark until 10:30 p.m. that's a lot of day light to burn!!

Velva, ND on July 1, 2011

On July 1, 2011 I started my 10 day vacation in North Dakota.  My home town of Minot, ND had been hit with one of the worst floods the town had ever experienced.  Many of the roads were flooded and guarded by military to keep people out.  We had to take the long way to Velva, ND where my mom, grandma, cousin and aunt live.  We took the long way thru Surrey, ND and visited my cousin Gabe, Chelsie and their daughter Lindley.  Once in Velva we had chicken fried steak, country gravy and crispy hash browns (one of my favorites) and man was it good.  That evening we had a fire and indulged on s'mores!!  Below are pictures of:
