Minot's flood in 2011 ended up being one of the worst in the city's history. Flood levels surged past the record set in the flood of 1881 leaving 1/4 of the city's population evacuated from their homes (approx. 12,000 people). These photos were taken 2-3 weeks after the crest of the flood when water had gone down considerably. Many of the roads shown in these photos were not open 1 week prior. My cousin Melissa and 5,000 other people sustained water damage to their houses. My cousin still cannot move back in to her house and the water on the first level reached between 4-5 feet and the foundation of the home is approximately 2 feet above ground level. The is community is rallying to rebuild and you can help by:
1. Donating to the Red Cross @: http://minotredcross.org/
2. Voting for Minot's Oak Park to win $100,000 to rebuild park @: http://m.livepositively.com/park_details.jsp?parkId=11775
3. Attend benefit concert by Black Eyed Peas or just donate @: http://minotrising.org/
Highway 52 below was not open and submerged by water when I got to Minot 1 week prior
Highway below not open 1 week prior when I arrived to Minot on 7/1/11
Road still closed on 7/9/11
Trucks, campers, propane tanks and decks were no match for flood waters
Near the fair grounds less than 1 mile from Melissa's house
Tree trunk on side of road?
@ the Fair grounds. The city hoped to have the annual North Dakota State fair, it was cancelled.
More of the fair grounds
Road ends in flood water..you can't go that way!!
I urge everyone to help by donating just $10.00 to a very deserving community!! I <3 Minot!!
